    "26. Bezaleel4 Gates (Joseph3, Joseph2, George1), born October 14, 1726 in East Haddam, CT, baptized November 20, 1726, … On May 9, 1771, the General Assembly commissioned him ensign of the second company in the 12th Connecticut Regiment. At an East Haddam town meeting held December 7, 1778, he was chosen as one of a 'Committee to provide Such Clothing for the Soldiers in Continental Service as they are or shall be enabled to: by Resolve of the Assembly or of this Town.' In addition to his service at home, at least three of his sons, Bezaleel, Aaron, and Henry, were on active duty in the American Revolution, during which Henry lost his life from disease. … Ensign Bezaleel Gates died there (East Haddam), March 8 or 28, 1802, in his 75th year."
