    Beverly Waugh was born 28 October 1789 in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was the son of James Waugh and Henrietta Maria Turley. At the age of 15 he became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA. In 1809 he became an itinerant minister for the Baltimore Conference. After three years he was stationed in Washington, where he married Catharine Bruce Bushby. He had a distinguished career in the Methodist Church and was elected Bishop at the 1836 General Conference. He traveled widely and constantly and kept detailed journals of his work. The Waughs had a large family and lived primarily in Baltimore. Bishop Waugh died in Baltimore on 9 Feb 1858 and is buried near the Bishops' Lot in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
