Betty Lauthner Murry, age 92, entered into final rest on July 23, 2018. Mrs. Murry was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 9, 1926 and resided there until she was fifteen, when she moved to Augusta, Georgia. She graduated from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Murry was employed for over forty years by Georgia Railroad Bank and other banks in Augusta. She was an active and enthusiastic member of her community. She was a member of Saint John United Methodist Church for 77 years. She supported many local charities with special interests in hearing impaired individuals, war veterans, and animal rescue societies. She also was a supporter of The Salvation Army and its many beneficial programs. Mrs. Murry enjoyed excellent health throughout her life without being hospitalized until the last two weeks of her life when she received excellent care at the Medical College of Georgia for an unexpected emergency.
Betty Murry was the only child of Clarence and Grace Lauthner. She is survived by cousins, Thomas Ivie and Jinny Knox and her Godchild, Helen Harrell Horton. Her step children are Marie Smith, Melinda Murry Moretz, Beth Murry Chadwick (Mike Pollitt), Owen J. Murry, Jr. (Cathy) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Owen James Murry and her step daughter Susan Murry Gayheart. Betty cherished the unconditional Love of her two best friends, June DeBeaugrine Harrell and Grace Toole Humphries. She enjoyed and appreciated the deep caring friendship of Dave and Carrie Welter. Among her best friends from work are Shirley Anderson and Luanna Cole. Shelia Hall and Jay Dennis have been her family.
