When she worked at the Standard Insurance, she was in the mail room delivering the mail to various offices. Bob was there at one time to study insurance. At one time, Bob had a cold and Betty told him that her mother knows how to treat a cold. She told him to come home with her and have Agnes look at you. He went with Betty and Agnes took charge. Agnes called doctor and he stayed at the house and was put to bed. Agnes took care of him. Agnes said he never saw anyone so rough on a bed. Tore bed apart every night. Bob was always a restless sleeper. At this time, Betty was dating Joe Mason. Betty's boyfriend, Joe showed up at the house to take her on a date, while Bob was there, resting from the cold. Bob later went back to Tulsa, OK, called and wrote Betty. Bob wouldn't let her go. Betty and Bob later married. When they married their were no pictures taken at wedding because no one could afford a camera. Everyone was poor and there was no money. Betty and Bob married at Blessed Sacrament Cathadel in Detroit. Oct 1940. It was a rainy night. They couldn't marry in church because Betty wasn't catholic, so they married in the rectory house next to the church. A priest married them. Bobby's father , Ray and his McBride relatives were there. The McBride bunch came in late to the wedding. It happened around 7 pm. The priest had to leave and told them to come back another time. Bobby said they were getting married right then and now. Afterwards they went to Whitter hotel for dinner in Detroit.. The newlyweds stayed at that hotel that night per Bobby's father, Ray. Her sister, Lucile and Nancy Helferich filled Betty's suitcase with rice and the rice was everywhere. Ray Siegfried arranged for a twin bed to be in the room for the newlyweds as a joke. Bobby found that bed and raised hell with hotel and later got a king bed. Betty opened bag and rice went everywhere. Next morning whole family went downstairs for breakfast at hotel. Honey mooned in West Virginia. After honeymoon they moved in briefly with Bobby's dad, Ray at 2629 S. Trenton house in Tulsa., then on to a apartment at 773 Riverside in 1941. Their daughter, Diane was born while they lived in that apt. References
