Mrs. Bertha Phiefer Dies
Funeral Services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Community Church in Clear Lake for Mrs. Bertha Phiefer, pioneer resident of Clear Lake, who died at her home Friday, August 10, after a long illness. The Rev. Mr. Abrams of Anacotes, officiated and burial was made in the Clear Lake cemetery. She is survived by her husband John Phiefer, and several children. She was born in Germany June 7, 1864.

Funeral services for Bertha Pheifer, wife of John Pheifer of Clear Lake were held Sunday afternoon in the Clear Lake Community Church with Rev. Abrams of the Congregrational Church and Rev. Root of the Sedro Woolley Free Methodist Church officiating. Born on June 7 1864 in Germany, Bertha Kraatz accompanied her parents when they crossed the ocean and sought a new home in America. They settled in Chicago where her childhood days were passed. In September 1882, she was united in marriage with Henry G Knott and seven children were born to this union. Two sons, Carlton and Vernon have preceded her in death. In 1883 the family moved to Minnesota, locating near Clara City, where Mr. Knott entered the ministry of the Methodist Church. In 1886, the family moved to Prinsburg Minnesota, where Mr. Knott passed away in January 1889. Mrs. Knott remained in Prinsburg until 1907 at which time she was married to John Pheifer, who had five children. They lived at Sunnyside, Minnesota until September 1920, when they moved to Clear Lake, Washington where her remaining years were spent. Surviving relatives who mourn her passing are the husband, children and step-children: George H Knott, Mrs. Dick Edzinga (Anna), Mrs. Joel Clough (Ethel), both of Clear Lake; Raymond of Great Falls, Montana; Mrs. Roy Berg (Alvina) of Willmar, Minnesota; Mrs. R.W. Knott (Alice Pheifer) of Great Falls, Montana; John G Pheifer of Willmar, Minnesota; Leonard Pheifer and Mrs. John Ensch (Sadie) of Clear Lake; and Clarence Pheifer of Warren, Oregon. Nineteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. William Klatt of Evanston, Illinois also survive. While in Clear Lake, Mrs. Pheifer took an active part in church and temperance work, and was active in the Clear Lake W.C.T.U. For the last few years was president of the Loyal Temperance Legion in that community. She had a remarkably large circle of friends and her passing is mourned by the entire Clear Lake Community.
