Bernard C 'Red' Gabel Feb. 14, 1917 -- March 11, 2003 ----- Bernard C "Red" Gabel, 86, of rural Fremont passed away early Tuesday mor ning at Memorial Hospital. He was born in Toledo to the now deceased Charles D and Florence (Cook) Ga bel. As a young child, the family moved to the homestead in Riley Twp. He was married to Janet Peck Ickes who passed away Nov. 28, 1992. Mr. Gabel was a longtime farmer near Helena. After retiring from farmin g, he worked for Widman Construction and G&W Construction. Many in the Fre mont area later knew him as a handyman. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Fremont Moose Lodge a nd Eagles Aerie. He was a former member of the Helena Fire Department. Surviving are brother John R Gabel of Fremont; sister Harriet (Ernie) Fo rk of Gibsonburg; stepdaughters Donna and Robin; and many nieces and nephe ws. He is preceded by an infant daughter and brother Francis "Speck" Gab el of Fostoria. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuar y, with afternoon vigil services. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial: Metzger Cemetery, Helena. Memorials: Helena Volunteer Fire Department, Sandusky CO Heart Associati on or donor's choice. |
