DIED -- In Wilson county, on the 16th July, in the 79th year of his age, Col, Benjamin Seawell, of a short but severe attack of jaundice.
Col Seawell was a bold and zealous republican. He entered the Revolutionary War at its commencement, in the capacity of Captain of a volunteer company. His enterprising talents as a commander, soon brought him into notice, and he was promoted to the command of a regiment, which he held until the close of the War. In testimony of the high esteem in which he was held by his countrymen, the Col. was chosen a member of the Convention which framed the Constitution of the state of North Carolina; and not thinking they had given him sufficient testimony of their high esteem, they elected him a member to their General Assembly. He was also a Counsellor of State for a number of years. Such was his zeal for the cause of liberty, he often forgot he was old.
When conversing on the subject of the revolution, the beam of youthful rigor would be seen to flash from his penetrating eye; and although age had deprived h im of the pleasures of social enjoyment, he would feast himself on the recital of the noble manner in which the Americans h ad gained their Independence; He was not only agreat defender of the people's rights, but a genuine christian; which was demonstrated in his last moments. He bore his illness with great firmness and christian fortitude.
