Benjamin Allen Pillow of Petersburg, virginia, enlisted at Jetersville, amelia county, Virginia, May 16, 1861, in company B, 23rd regiment Virginia Infantry, for one year. He was mustered into service as a Private. He was wounded in the left leg May 6, 1864, and was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital No. 2, Richmond, Virginia, My 9, 1864 at age 22. On May 21, 1864, he was transferred to Confederate States Hospital, Petersburg, Virgina, from which place he returned to duty September 5, 1864. On September 22, 1864, he was captured at Fisher's Hill, Shenandoah County, Virginia, and taken to Point Lookout, Maryland, where he subscribed to the Oath of Allegiance and was released May 14, 1865.
