According to various sources, he was the son of Nathan Perry and Rebecca Yarborough. He married Sarah McCoy in 1825 and had children Edward 1826, Isabel 1830, John Hanley 1837- ; Mary 'Polly' 1834-1890 KS m. William Hurst, Malvina 1837, Emily 1838- m. Jonathon Worthington, Samantha 1840- m. J. Bridgewater, Martin Vanburen 1842-1917 MO m. Mary Melvina Johnson; Elizabeth 1843- m. Cyrus W. Bridgewater; and Julia 1845-1915 m. David Staton Johnson. He married Jane Vance in 1845 and had children Jonathon David 1849-1937, Matilda 1851, William Forsythe 1853-1933, Margaret 1858, Benjamin B. 1864-1905; and Andrew Johnson 1868-1954. "Mr. [Andrew Johnson] Perry is a native of Missouri, born on a farm in Bates county on the western border of that state, December 23, 1868, and is a son of Benjamin and Jane (Vance) Perry, both natives of Tennessee, who were married in that state and who later established their home in Bates county, Missouri, where their last days were spent, both dying in their prime. A. J. Perry was but nine years of age [abt 1877] when he became an orphan, and his youth thereafter was spent in the household of an elder brother, William Perry, his education being received in the schools of his native county. Perry is 58 TN, farmer; with Jane 40 TN; Julian 27 IL; Johnathon 16 IL; Matilda 13 IL; Wm 11 IL; Margaret 6 MO; and Benj. 8 months, Kansas. Also in Paris are Edward Perry 38 TN; with Elizabeth 25 IL; Martin V. 10 IL; Lucinda 9 IL; and Geo (Bull?) 3 KS; and John H. Perry 30 IL with Wm. R. 10; May Bell 8 IL; Robert A. 3 KS and [brother] Martin V. 24 IL. In the 1870 census for Osage, Bates Co., Missouri, Benj Perry is 60 TN; with [second wife] Jane 45 TN; Julia 23 IL; John D. 21; Mathilda 18 IL; Wm. L. 16; Margaret 12 IL; Ben B. 5 IL; and A. Thos? 1 MO. They are next to [son] John H. Perry 37 IL; with Angaline 32 IL; W. R. 13 IL; Mabel 11 IL; Rob A. 8 KS; and [sister] Isabell 40 IL. In the 1880 census his childen Martin V., John Hanley, Jonathon, 'Emelea' Worthington; William (with brother Andrew) are all in Bates Co. with families; Julia A. in Linn Co. KS with husband David S. Johnson and half-brother Benjamin 15; Mary and husband Wm Hurst are in McPherson Co., KS. Elizabeth and Edward are dead. |
