In 1859, Charles Spooner, Benjamin Chandler, and Benjamin Gray, took up lots east of the mill and made clearings. The mill in reference is the first saw mill built in Mapleton by Ball & Huse. (The History of Mapleton, Maine 1880-1980, p 13)
