Obit; April 27, 1897---Feb 16, 1990 Former Montrose resident, Benjamin B [Bert] Gaines, 93, died Friday Feb. 16, 1990, at Corpus Christi, Texas. Creamation was followed by niching on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Church of the Good Shepard, Corpus Christi, Texas. Benjamin B Gaines, the son of William S and Susan C Gaines, was born April 27, 1897, at Olathe, Colo. He was employed for many years at the Lathrop Hardware and as a custodian at the Montrose County Courthouse. Mr. Gaines is survived by his wife, Ruth Gaines, Corpus Christi, Texas; one son Robert Gaines, Houston, Texas; one daughter, Barbara Barnes, Corpus Christi, Texas; five grandchildren; and two g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles; and two sisters; Drucsilla Ripley and Mattie Bragg. Mr. Gaines was a lifetime member of the Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053, BPOE, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
