He was born in what was referred to as the Oblong (a tract of land like a small village but narrow and long). Benjamin enlisted 30 July 1776. He was described as having no trade, 24 years old, and 5’ 6” tall with a fresh complexion and brown hair. He was on a muster roll of August 6 1776 in Swartwout’s Brigade, Capt. Stephen Duryea’s Company at Kingsbridge. The following record of Adolphustown lots has been taken from the books of the Crown Lands Department, Toronto (Sessional Papers #32, 61 Victoria, A. 1898 pg 71-72).
