INJURIES FROM SILO MACHINE FATAL TO SKOWHEGAN MAN Skowhegan, Me., Sept. 18.-- Benjamin Cayford, aged about 64, while cutting corn for the silo at the farm of Charles Beckwith late Saturday afternoon recieved injuries from which he died about 8:30 o'clock Sunday morning. Mr. Cayford was working near the machine and it is thought that a blowpipe became clogged and burst. One of Mr. Cayford's arms was broken in five places, his nose was broken and there were deep cuts over the eyes and on both legs. He was at once taken to the Kennebec Valley hospital. Mr. Cayford was born in Cornville about 64 years ago, the son of Charles and Mary (French) Cayford. He was three times married. He was a member of Skowhegan Grange and a graduate of the Cornville high school. Mr. Cayford is survived by a wife, Mrs. Clara White Cayford; three sons, Benjamin of Dakota and Scribner and Kenneth of Athens; a daughter, of Skowhegan; a stepdaughter, Helen White Flint of New York; two stepsons, Carlton of Skowhegan and Elmer of Auburn; three brothers, Maurice, who resides on the home place; and Luther and Howard of Canada; and three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Smith of Skowhegan, and Mrs. Carolyn Burrill and Mrs. Mary Thorndike of Massachusetts. |
