[edit] Working timeline1688 - England - Benjamin Bennett received a land patent, registered in 1712 by his grandson, from the most Noble Henry Duke of Beadfort Pallatine for 118 acres and 24 poles in Currituck precinct of Albemarle joining the side of a cypress swamp, at 2 shillings per acre rent due every 29th day of September. [Patent Book One, pg. 194 #551] [Note:This was probably for two headrights at 50 acres a piece.] 30 Jul 1767 - Currituck, NC - Nicholas Nichols of Currituck County, ship carpenter, sold to William Bright of same place, for the consideration of 35 pounds current money of North Carolina, land by the dividing line between Joseph Haman and Marmaduke Cox (who was former owner of the land), the patent line, Main Road, Light Swamp, formerly patented by Benjamin Bennet and conveyed to Thomas Cox and by him devised to his son Edward Cox.
