Parents were probably still in Burlington on the date of Benedict's birth. They move from Burlington to Ferrisburg about 1787. This information is in his father's pension files.
"Benedict Alford Jr. lived in Troy OH in 1859 aged 73 & he made reference to 2 bros one in MO & the other in Lower Canada..." (Abstracts of Rev. War Pension Files, p. 30). This first mentioned brother is Ammi. He ended up, however, back in Vermont. The second brother has long been a mystery, but the evidence points to William Alford, who buys land in Ontario, Canada, and later moves on to Michigan with his family.
