Of Ensign Thomas and Mary (Bushnell) Leffingwell. Deacon Benajah Bushnell was born in Norwich, and resided there all his life. He joined the 1st Cong. In 1714 he was chosen 1st. Lieut. of the train band, and in 1721 was commissioned Capt. Between 1720 and 1736 he represented the town eight terms in the General Court, and in 1723
took a prominent part in establishing the town line between Norwich and Preston, and in 1730, was appointed to audit the books of the Colony; he was also justice of the Peace.
When Christ Episcopal Church was organized in 1756/7, he was elected treasurer and some two years later, the building, towards which he donated £40, was erected on land also
donated by him. In 1750 he was elected Senior Deacon, and in 1767 his wife gave other lands to the church.

They continued to reside on the home place after his father's death, but in his later years he resided at the Landing. Both were buried in Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery in Norwich."
