Facts and Events
He was a civil engineer. In 1850, he entered the service of the United States in the capacity of assistant engineer, under Col. Stephen Harriman Long of the Topographical Engineers. He was afterwards transferred to the South, where he was placed in charge of the improvements on the Red River Raft, in Louisiana. He was on his way home, to visit his family in Detroit when he died of Yellow Fever on the steamer on the Ohio River. References
