Barrie L. Tanner, 73, of Malta, Ill., passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Oct. 28, 1933, in Malta, he was the son of H. Lodore and Irene Mae (Griswold) Tanner. Barrie married Beverly A. Buck on April 23, 1960, at the DeKalb United Methodist Church.
Barrie was a member of Malta Congregational Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean conflict. Barrie was a self-employed carpenter, was currently employed at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove and was formerly employed at Anaconda Wire & Cable in Sycamore. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Little League coach and umpired softball. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball, in which he was involved in many leagues; the last team he played for was E & L Tap.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; four children, Amy (Thomas) Ruschell of San Ramon, Calif., Danny Tanner of Sugar Grove, Anita (Wally) Bottom of DeKalb and Abby Tanner of Malta; four grandchildren, Tanner, Tara and Taylor Ruschell and Ashley Bottom; a sister, Gaye Hicks of Malta; a nephew, Craig (Mary) DeWeerdt of Milwaukee, Wis.; and his mother-in-law, Mary Buck of Mount Morris.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Conner Bottom; a sister, Pat DeWeerdt; and his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with the Rev. Robert Vaughn of Malta Congregational Church officiating. Burial will follow at Malta Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home.
