Barbara NEILL was b. 28may1846 (inverclyde website), chr 20jun1846 (IGI). Barbara, eldest daughter of John Neill sugar refiner, married (14dec1865 Greenock) James MacCunn, merchant (inverclyde, IGI). Barbara studied music with composer William Sterndale Bennett; James was a shipowner of Thornhill, Greenock (Dictionary Nat Biog entry on Hamish MacCunn). In 1870 James and John MacCunn, shipowners, Excise Bldgs (the latter: Thornhill, 37 Union St.) (Greenock PO Directory). In 1881 James Maclenan (1840, shipowner), wife Barbara (1847), children, John (1867), James (1868), George D.N. (1873), Agnes N. (1876), Robert N. (1877), Andrew (1881), all b. Greenock, were at Thornhill House, Ardgowan St., Greenock (census, LDS); census at ancestry.com has correct surname Maccunn. In 1890 James Maccunn, Thornhill, 37 Ardgowan St. W., Greenock (PO Directory). In 1891 James McCunn (1840, traffic agent G.H. Trust), Barbara (1847), Agnes N. (1876), Robert N.
