Barbara Bär (bapt. 21 October 1694 – d. c1750 Farmersville, Lancaster Co., PA) is thought to have been born either in the Kraichgau region near Heidelberg, Germany or in Albis, Hausen, Canton Zurich, Switzerland. “LDS records suggest that Barbara was born in Zurich, but Slabaugh’s research suggests the Bar family had moved to Germany by this generation. Migrations from Switzerland to Germany during this time for Anabaptists were quite common.” Slabaugh says some research connects Barbara to Hans Bar (b. c1664 Streichenberg Estate, near Heidelberg, Germany), but not enough work has been done to confirm this. Hans Bar was the son of Heinrich Bar and Veronica Meyer. Heinrich was born December 1640, Ebertswill, 12 mi. SE of Zurich. Veronica was born c. 1640, probably in the Kraichgau region of Germany. The will of Barbara’s brother, Samuel, confirms her maiden name and marriage to Jacob BAUMANN.
