Facts and Events
Junior Lewis was the second born of nine children (the oldest son) born to Banner Lewis and Mary Jane Mollett. He was born up Daniels Creek near Banner, Floyd County, Kentucky. He lived with the Dillion's for a time as a boy and worked on their land. His family was very poor. He had a third grade education and was not entirely illiterate as he could read some and sign his name. It was his wife who helped him learn how to read at a more advanced level, when she read the bible into cassette tapes that he would then listen to and follow along in the same bible. He became a follower of Jesus later in life and was a passionate evangelical believer. He drove around Prestonsburg with speakers on top of his small brown Toyota and played Shambach for the populous to hear. He was an avid hunter and often had hunting dogs. He was shot killed by his youngest brother Bennie at their parents home which was rented from the Woods family on what is now Woods Lane located just off of route 1428 near Emma, Floyd County, Kentucky. That house is no longer standing. The details as to motive and the actual events that took place are sketchy, but he was shot at very close range and the brother did not serve time for his crime.
