    Avis Lily (Sadler) Zeigler, 94, of Grand Rapids, born in Alanson to Max and Charlotte (Murphy) Sadler on April 27, 1913, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008.

    Avis graduated from Alanson High School and Mercy Hospital of Nursing. She has post graduate diplomas from Margaret Hague Hoop Hospital in Jersey City, N.J.

    She joined the Army Nurse Corps during World War II and was assigned to the 20th General Hospital in Assam, India and the Mayo General Hospital in Galesburg, Ill. Most of her working career was spent nursing at the Petoskey Hospital, the Little Traverse Hospital and the Burns Clinic.

    Avis married Maurice Zeigler in 1961 and they made their home in Grand Rapids.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Zeigler in 1993; a sister, Thora Lowery; sisters-in-law Phyllis Zeigler and Yvonne Zeigler. She is survived by a sister, Orva Kelts; a sister-in-law, Mary Collins; many nieces, nephews and friends.

    Memorial contributions may be given to the Little Traverse Humane Society or the Alanson Hillside Fund.
