Research to date has brought me to the arrival in Canada of Austin O'Boyle in 1851. Austin emigrated from a location between Westport and Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland with his eldest son Owen, in the spring of 1851. His wife, Catherine (Fitzpatrick) and the remaining children, Walter and Austin were to join him in Canada the following year. Austin first stayed in Lindsay, Ontario then travelled to Cleavland, Ohio where he had relatives. He returned to Lindsay in the fall of 1851 where he worked and waited for Catherine's arrival. Anticipating the arrival in Toronto of Catherine and the younger children, Austin left from Lindsay to meet them. Unfortunately, he never arrived. He was last seen by his friends the O'Donnells in Pickering, Ontario where he had stayed overnight. Austin was thought to be unarmed and carrying a "roll" of money he had saved. Highwaymen frequented the roads at that time and evidently took his life and his money .

Despite her tragic loss, Catherine made her way to Austin's home and managed to care for her family very well. Her son's, Owen, Walter and Austin eventually purchased several properties along Concession #6, Mara Township in the 1870's and 1880's and became prosperous and active members of their communities. She settled in Brechin, Ontario where she remained until her death at 82 years of age on January 05, 1891.

Any information you have regarding this family would be greatly appreciated. Also,I will be happy to share the information I have to date.
