[the 1901 census, indicates Gus and his sister Clara were living with Peter McCann and his wife Mary (Moffatt) in Belmont twp. Peterborough Co. (page 13. family #122, they are recorded as adopted)]
On Apr. 27, 1916, Augustus enlisted in the 221st Battalion of the CEF in Winnipeg, Manitoba. he was 31, single, 5'7" tall with a dark complextion, brown eyes, and black hair. He indicates he is from Havelock, Ontario, and his next-of-kin is his father John Walker of Havelock, Ontario.
Gus was discharged from the Army two months later, prior to the Battalion going overseas.
Note: following the death of their mother the Walker children were placed in various different families
