He was taken as a Prisoner of War on 19 October 1864 at Cedar Creek, VA, and exchanged on 22 February 1865. He was promoted to a Full Corporal on 2 July 1865, and was mustered out of the same unit on 26 August 1865 in Savannah GA ["Military Records of Individual Civil War Soldiers," Historical Data Systems, Provo UT, accessed at "American Civil War Soldiers" database on www.ancestry.com].
