The thin line of Civil War veterans in Manistee was reduced for the second time this week when Augustus N. Randall, aged 79 years, died last night at the home of his son, Herbert K. Randall, 86 Elm Street. Death was due to old age. Mr. Randall was a resident of Manistee for the past 30 years, coming here a few years after the close of the Civil War. He enlisted in the Eighth regiment of Ohio infantry. After a short period of service he was promoted to Corporal. Born in Lorain, O., Jan. 8, 1836, he spent the early years of his life in his home state, until the outbreak of the war. His life was exemplary in every respect. He was a member of McGinley Post No. 201 of the G.A.R. He is survived by one son, H.K. Randall of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. E.M. Johnson of Ignacio, Colo. Funeral services will be held at the house tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and will be conducted by the members of the McGinley Post of the G.A.R. Rev. J.E. Wilkinson will officiate. Monday morning the body will be taken to Pentwater, where it will be buried next to that of his wife, in the family lot.
