Obituary: Augustus E Preston, 31 December 1908, page 1, column 8.
Augustus E. Preston died Dec. 22 at his home in New London after a lingering sickness. The funeral was held at the home Thursday, Rev. D. M. Cleveland officiating. Fred Pressey was manager. The bearers were his three sons and Herbert Smith. The deceased was 75 years old, was born in New Ipswich, but spent nearly 50 years in New London. He was married to Ann B. Messer of New London, who died a year ago last June. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Ida Gage, of Bedford, 3 sons, Ervin, Ralph and Bert, and a sister, Mrs. Martha Langley, of Elkins. He was a stone mason by trade and a great deal of the work he has done in town is left to show the skill of his trade. Verified: YES
