Audrey's only child was Tony Abshier (my grandfather), and he was listed as 'Anthony' in the 1930 census. That same census listing also shows Tony as the 'adopted son' of Clyde R. Abshier. His biological father was told to be Mr. Clem, although I have never found any record of Mr. Clem, and only Audrey was listed on the birth certificate. Tony took the last name of his stepfather, Clyde Abshier, who Tony considered his father.

In the 1930 census Audrey lists her occupation as 'saleslady', and her industry as 'ready to wear'. She also lists her 'age at first marriage' as 15 years old. She was 23 when she married Charles Smith, and she was 27 when she married Clyde Abshier, so perhaps did have a first marriage to Mr. Clem.

According to her death certificate, Audrey died in a hospital where she had been staying for about one year, at 444 E. 132nd Street, in Hawthorne. She died of cerebral thrombosis (stroke) due to arteriosclerosis, and she also had diabetes mellitus for the last three years of her life. According to her death certificate, the Dunaway Funeral Home handled her burial arrangements. I (Jerry D. Abshier) visited her grave in 2004 at the Inglewood Park Cemetery. It was a beautiful place, and thanks to a friendly caretaker, I was able to locate her headstone without too much trouble.
