Athanase (Tennos, Tenos, Tannos, Tanos) was a native of Canada, born near Toronto and came to Berrien Co. as a boy with his parents. The family home was established near Bainbridge Twp. MI. Tennos moved from Brainbridge Twp. to Sodus Twp. to occupy and cultivate a farm which his brother Luc (Luke) purchased, while Luke continued to follow the river. Tennos occupied the place about a year and then purchased a farm on the bank of the St. Joe (Joseph) River, and there continued his home for 12 years, after which he removed to the farm where his son Edwin was born and where he made his home. Edwin later took over the farm and called it "Shady Lawn Farm". Tennos married Miss Louisa (Eliza) Wheeler, a native of N.Y. state, who came with her parents to Mich. at an early age, the Wheeler family home being established in St. Joseph, Michigan, where her father, John Wheeler, was a lumberman and one of the pioneer settlers of Berrien County.

From "The St. Joseph Herald", St. Joseph, Berrien Co. Michigan February 26, 1887: Tenos Sharai, a resident of Berrien county for over 30 years, died at his home near Sodus, of imflammation of the lungs, Wednesday, aged 72 years.
