From the "Portrait and Bioggraphical album of Hillsdale county, Michigan," published in 1888:

"Asa P. MOSHER was an early settler of Scipio Twp. coming to the area when a goodly proprtion of it was still uncultivated. He first purchased 48 acres to which he subsequently added a like amount and now has a good farm of 96 acres.

"Asa was born in Columbia Co. NY, 7/25/1815, the son of Esek and Elizabeth MOSHER, both natives of NY. Both died in NY many years ago. Asa was 19 when he began learning the trade of chairmaker. He also engaged in the manufacture of tubs and pails.

"On 10/18/1838 Asa married Diana SEAVER in Galway, Saratoga Co., NY Diana was born in that county 1/23/1819. After their marriage they settled at Union Springs, Cayuga Co., NY, where Asa again took up chairmaking. In the spring of 1844 they moved to southern Michigan and to Scipio Twp. Asa and diana had the following children:

"Mary E., now (1888) deceased.

"Charity, who lives with her widowed father.

"Emily A., who teaches in the district schools.

"Angeline, the widow of Oscar H. ANDREWS who died in Mosherville about 1875.

"Florance, who married Marvin PALMER of Scipio Twp and died at her home in Jackson, MI 2/28/1885, leaving two children, Jossie I. and Floyd O.

"Diana Seaver Mosher died 9/11/1872, at the age of 52 years, in Scipio Twp., a devoted wife, a kind mother and a good neighbor. Asa became one of the Society of Friends as a young man in NY and still holds to that faith. He cast his first presidential ballot for Martin Van Buren and for a number of years was a member of the Free-Soil Parttt. He served as Highway Commissioner and as School Director."
