From The Graves Family In America, Vol 1. p. 105-106 "Asa Graves . . . enlisted for short service in Rev. War, July 13, 1775, under Captain Harvey,Col. Brewer's Regt., 26 days. Enlisted Oct. 26, 1875, under Captain Harvey, Col. Brewer's Regt., 8 months. Enlisted Nov. 15, 1776, Captain Daniel's Company, Col. Smith's Regt. in Continental service. Descriptive list :—24 years old, 5 ft. 9 in. high, complexion light, hair light, eyes blue. Reported on pay rolls as Sgt., May loth at West Point, N. Y. Reported as Ensign, May 5, 1781, in Col. Smith's Regt. Enlisted for the war April 5, 1779, from Sunderland, in Capt. Haynes' Comp., Col. Wigglesworth's Regt. of Continentals. He had the rank of Sgt. from Feb 1, 1777, to Dec. 31, 1779. Commissioned Ensign June 15, 1781,—was Sgt. Major Dec. 1, 1781. He was transferred to the light infantry, June, 1782, and was on duty on the Staff of Gen. Washington for some time. Mch. 22, 1783, he drew his pay for 5 years—full pay instead of half pay, as many did.”
