Personal History
Arthur enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) on 29 March 1937 at the County Welfare Board in Forman, Sargent County, North Dakota. He was accepted on 10 April 1937 and was routed to reception. Arthur spent 2 days in reception and then was routed to Cottonwood (F-70) at Boise, Idaho where he worked in forestry as well as road construction with pick and shovel. On May 1, he was transferred to the Sod House (BF-2)near Burns, Harney County, Oregon. Art was discharged from the CCC on the 26th September 1937. Arthur graduated from high school and later moved to Alameda County, California, where he was employed as a welder and flame cutter. On the 19th of August 1943, he enlisted as a private in the United States Army Corps. [Ancestry.com.
