Mrs. James Maitland died at the home of her son George, in Sycamore, Wednesday, September 12, after an illness of ten days from cholera morbus.
Sarah Renwick was born in Johnstown Parish, Scotland, April 16, 1822. At the age of 13 she came with her parents to Canada. On March 9, 8141, she was united in marriage to James Maitland, and with him came to DeKalb county in November, 1868. Mr. Maitland died May 7, 1875, and since that time she had resided in Sycamore.
To Mr. and Mrs. Maitland were born fifteen children, eleven of whom survive them. The children are: Mrs. John Allen of Trenton, Canada; James Maitland, Sycamore; Mrs. Arthur Mead, Elgin; Walter, Robert, George, Sycamore; Herbert, Hitchcock, Dakota; Henry, Sycamore; William, Brighton, Canada; Thomas, Messervy, Iowa; and Mrs. Theodore Weitzel, Sycamore.
Deceased was highly esteemed by her neighbors for many noble traits of character. Forty years ago she united with the Presbyterian church. She was one of seven sisters, and is the first of the number to be called by death.
The funeral was from the Methodist church, Friday morning, at half past ten, the services being in charge of Rev. A. T. Horn. The interment was in the cemetery at Ohio Grove.

Former Sycamore Boy, Son of Well Known Horseman, Passed Away On Monday After Long Illness At His Home In Belvidere
Arthur Meade, who passed most of the years of his youth in Sycamore, where he was well known, died at his home, 1609 Pearl street, Belvidere, on Monday evening, after a long illness. The funeral services were held at the home on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. H. E. Rompel officiating, and the interment was in Belvidere cemetery.
The Belvidere Republican says: There survive his wife, one son, Dwight of Chicago; his father, Benjamin Meade and two brothers, Frank of Belvidere, and Edward of Genoa.
The deceased was born in Belvidere January 24, 1847. His home for a number of years had been in Elgin, Ill., and Kalamazoo, Mich., but he returned to Belvidere about four years ago and has since resided here.
Mr. Meade was highly esteemed in the community and was of a genial and kindly temperment. His many friends will much deplore his demise and extend their sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
The father, Benjamin Meade, was a pioneer of this section, living here when the old stage coaches were the means of travel through this section. He is now living at a remarkable age, having reached 95 years, and is active and comparatively well, being able to drive horses and get about the city.
