Art farmed with his father until entering the United States Army on May 8, 1941. While in the Army he was united in marriage to Clarice Barke on October 16, 1941. He served with the 34th Division in the European Theater until his honorable discharge on July 16, 1945. Arthur came back to Minnesota and farmed in the Fairmont area until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Education and the Finance Board. He was active in 4-H serving on the Council and as a local club leader. He was also a member of the Lee C. Prentice Americal Legion Post #36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1222. Art died Sunday morning, May 31, 1998 at his home in Fairmont.
