I believe she was the daughter of Harrison Whaley and Francis Stone. Harrison remarried Margaret Melissa Evans in 1858.

In the 1860 census for Moorefield, Nicholas Co., Kentucky, H. Whaley is 37, a farmer with $8000 real estate and $4900 personal; Margaret 21; R. N. 14; Artemesia 10; Amanda 4; John 8; and Jos. 1 month -- all born Kentucky. {p. 322} Next door is the Ratcliffe family, including Samuel.
In the 1870 census for Weston, Nicholas Co., Kentucky, Harrison Whaley [indexed as 'Whaly' or 'Whay'] is 47 farmer; with Margaret 30; Richard 23; John 18; Amanda 14; Joseph 10; Mattie 7; and Emma 4 -- all born Kentucky. Annie (?) is 28, Geo Ratliff is 9; Margaret Ratcliff is 34, domestic servant; and Lucy [Ratliff] is 6 -- both black. {p. 299} Next door are James Whaly 84 and Milly 80 -- both black, both born Virginia.
Her husband is listed in the 1910 census with a second marriage of 5 years, so Artemesia must have died between 1900 and 1905.
