About Armistead Burwell

Armistead Burwell was a member of a committee appointed by the Virginia Assembly to provide material for enlarging the church. In 1759, he was a vestryman and in 1752 & 1754 he was a member of the House of Burgesses. He started building "Stoneland", in Mecklenburg Co, VA, where he died. He was also named in his father's will.

Armistead was a Williamsburg merchant and he moved to a vast tract of land in Mecklenburg County on the Meherrin River (south of what is now Chase City) where "Stoneland" would be built. Both Armistead and his wife are buried in Williamsburg.
