James and Hannah (Mappin) Williams Family History by Mildred Johnson Council, Page #43, ARCHIBALD KINCAID, whose parents came to America from North Ireland about the year 1747, was born in Cumberland County ((Cumberland Valley) Perry County)) near Carlisle, Pennsylvania, exact date of his birth not being known. He served in the American Revolutionary War, most of the time from 1777-1778, proof to be found in the Pennsylvania Archives, 2nd Series, Vol. 4, pages 364, 365, and 366. He married Jeanette Townsley in the Tyrone (Treboyne) Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, now Perry County. To this marriage were born: James,Thomas, Andrew, Geroge Samuel, William Mattie (Martha) Polly, and Annie. Here lived two brothers, Archibald R. and Andrew Kincaid. They married sisters. Archibald R. married Jeanette Townsley and Andrew married Mattie Townsley. To each family was born 10 children. They shared the same home with one sister doing the cooking and care of the children, and the other doing the weaving and sewing. About 1795, they removed to what is now Bath County, Ky., where they divided households, but live on adjoining farms. Archibald R. Kincaid, died Feb. 7, 1823, in Bath County, Ky. His estate was appraised in Owingsville, the county seat of Bath County, Ky. His wife Jeanette Townsley Kincaid had died Oct. 2, 1822. The birthdates of but two of Archibald R. Kincaid's children are known. Thomas born April 21, 1778, who married Sept. 21, 1802. Theophilus Bracken became a farmer in his Kentucky home and was there married to Mary R. Hansford, who was born in Virginia and went from there with her parents to Bath County, Ky., where she grew to woman hood. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bracken had been previously married. Some years after they began life together they came to Illinois in wagons, in 1826, and made a settlement on unbroken wild land in Menard County, and there Mr. Bracken died at the age of eighty-two years and his wife at the age of seventy-six years. Thomas and Abigail Irons Kincaid were grand parents of William Iles Kincaid, who gave this information. He could give nothing further about it except that he had hear his father states this fact. Mr. John J. Coyle of Owingsville, Kentucky, who was a great grandson of Thomas and Abigail Irons Kincaid, stated that Abigail "Polly" Irons Kincaid was from Carlisle, Pa., and that she had a sister that followed her as a school teacher who married a Mr. Hodge. There was also an Elizabeth Irons who probably was another sister who married William Atchison, Jr. Their son, William Irons Atchison was born Sept. 14, 1819, died July 11, 1891. 51. The party came with guides, by flatboats down the Ohio River to Limestone, now Maysbille, and from there to the point of settlement. They land near the end of 1795, wh Kentucky was yet a new state. We know nothing of his boyhood only that he lived with his parents and helped his father and his brothers with the farm labor. 54.
