Archibald Ison Author: Ann Date: 28 Jan 2006 5:47 AM GMT Surnames: Ison, Stephens, Barker, Holbrook Classification: Query Post Reply | Mark Unread Report Abuse Print Message I found the death certificates for Isom Ison's daughter Nancy and her husband James H. Fannin. Nancys' states Ison private burial ground and James' states J.M. Ison private burial ground in Isonville. From what I can find this couple also have two children buried here. Roy Bryant Fannin DOD 1/25/1975 and Maudie Ethel Fannin DOD 3/27/1895, even though we could find no stones, especially the 1975 grave.

My husband and I finally found the grave of Archibald and Mary Gilliam Ison today after 2 years of searching. To the side of their grave was a field type stone perhaps indicating another grave. Diagonal to their graves was the grave of their son, Isom Ison, and also to the side of his grave was another unmarked grave, marked in the same fashion. No where on his grave did it mention his wife, so this may be her. There was one more unmarked grave more to the center. These 5 graves were the only visible graves in this small plot. I would be interested in knowing if anybody has any information regarding the unmarked graves. Also, I took pictures of these graves, so if interested, please let me know via my e-mail address.

This cemetery is located in Isonville, Ky on State Rt. 32 across the highway from the Isonville School and approximately 100 yards from the highway. If you are traveling back towards Sandy Hook, then it is on the right, just slightly past the school. There is a small area where hay has been mowed. If you cross this and keep going forward you can't miss. Like I said before, we could see the stones from the highway, but if you are going to go looking I would recommend doing so before spring and the leaves start coming out.

I have since found out that there may be 2 more graves in this area. Nancy Elizabeth Ison, date of death 12-21-1917. She was the daughter of Isom Ison. She married James Harvey Fannin, date of death 5-21-1916. This may be the center stone (I don't know how well you can see it in the pictures, but it is centrally located between Archibald and Isom in a diagonal line. In any event, I will start looking for their death certificates.

Thank you for sharing your lineage.

In 1810 Census he is in Clay Co.,KY,USA, as Arch Isham.

In the 1820 census in Floyd Co., came to Eastern KY from Scott Co., VA, in early 1800's and left most of his family there including his parents. Most of the children were born in Elliott Co., but some were born in VA. They are buried in Isonville, just off Route 32.
