BIOGRAPHY: John Hopkins and Some of his Descendants By Timothy Hopkins Printed and bound in the United States of America by Stanford University Press 1932 - Page 191 Archibald, b. at Great Barrington, Massachusetts, 23 March 1766; bapt. 30 March 1766; m. at Stockbridge, Massachusetts, 22 October 1800, Mary Curtis, b. there 19 October 1772, daughter of Isaac Curtis. He d. 25 January 1839, at Stockbridge. She d. 1868 at Williamstown. A farmer of Stockbridge, a member of the Congregational church, and a Whig. He was a Captain of cavalry in the Militia. Carter, in his life of President Mark Hopkins of Williams College, says of Archibald and his wife: “A man perhaps of less striking gifts than some of the line, but a true Hopkins. Mary Curtis, a genuine descendant of the Puritans, a women of large intelligence and force, and a firm believer in the inspiration of the Bible, although she never made a formal profession of religion, brought up her sons with scrupulous fidelity to the development in them of the purest morality.” |
