Facts and Events
A.R. Webber's "History of Hinkley, Ohio" relates the following regarding Arad Damon. "Successful people in this country, in all fields of endeavor, did not come out of the homes of wealth, where they were not required to put forth any effort to secure the means with which to feed, clothe and educate themselves. American history shows that the leaders in any calling r profession have, with very few exceptions, been raised in homes where it was necessary for all hands to be on the "Ways and Means Committee." The good book tells us that "We are made perfect through tribulation." There came into the woods on Hinckley Ridge 97 years ago (1835), from Chesterfield, Mass. a young man by the name of Arad Damon and his good wife Lydia. He was 29, and she 28. They brought with them four small children, bearing the names Fannie, (Gershom) Hayden, Ezra and Mahala. The tract of land on which they settled and erected their log dwelling is now (1932) known as the James Lyon farm. They had with them the (grand)mother (Lucy Morse) of Arad Damon. References
