Anthony Low and Francis Eaton

Anthony Low was in Warwick, RI in 1666 and in Swansey, MA in 1670. On 27 Jun 1675 the burning of his house was alluded to in a letter from Roger Williams to John Winthrop. He mentions that the Indians "had burnt about 12 houses, one new great one (Anthony Low)." This house was in Swanzey. In 1676 he bought the terms of service of five Indians "great and small" for L8. They had been taken captive by Providence men and were to serve out a certain term of years and then be free. In June 1676, Capt. Benjamin Church was negotiating with the Seaconnet Indians and much needed a vessel, but met with disappointment owing to false and faint hearted men, etc... "until at last Mr. Anthony Low put into the harbor with a loaden vessel bound to the westward, and being made acquainted with Mr. Church's case told him that he had so much kindness for him and was so pleased with the business that he was engagd in, that he would run the venture of his vessel and cargo to wait upon him." He brought him to Newport where Mr. Church disembarked. It is recorded that Anthony Low "had a sloop built in Warwick in 1668," evidently one of the first built in New England. During the King Philip's War, on 29 Feb. 1675, he was paid L5 for "frait" by the Maritime Disbursements. His will dated 6 Aug. 1692 mentions wife, son Samuel, eldest son John, Elizabeth. His wife's gravestone can be seen at New Meadow Nick, Warren, R.I. Anthony Low was born in 1625 in ENG. He immigrated about 1645. He served in the military in Jul 1676 in Newport, Newport Co., RI. <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~steeles/Steele/fowsrc.htm> He died after 6 Aug 1692 in Warren, Bristol Co., RI.
