Died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Dyke BALLINGER of Anadarko, Oklahoma, at the age of 65, Ansel GROVES. He was born at Rome, Indiana, December 15th, 1845. He had been staying several weeks at the home of Mrs. BALLINGER when he was taken ill with a bad cold which developed in pneumonia.

The sad news reached Mrs. Judge LOOFBOURROW, another daughter at Beaver, that the father was seriously ill and to come at once. Mr. and Mrs. LOFFBOURROW left as soon as possible but we did not learn whether they arrived before or after his death.

Thus the curtain drawn and all that is mortal of one of our number of fast decreasing old pioneers passes to the great beyond. Mr. GROVES had been a resident of this county for over 20 years, was widely known and had a host of friends who always had a cheery word for "Grandpa" GROVES. He was a man who had met with many reverses in life but had born them bravely.

While feeble in the latter days of his life he was always jovial and there was a daily beauty about his daily life which won every heart, especially those of the children about town. In temperament he was mild, conciliatory and candid. He gained confidence when he seemed least to seek it.

He believed that "Men and women, youth and children, seek the friendship of the sunny-faced." That "All doors are open to those who smile." That "All social circles welcome cheeriness". That "A sunny face is the open sesame to hearts and homes."

He believed in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man who scatters flowers in the pathway of his fellowmen, who lets into the dark places of life the sunshine of human sympathy and human happiness is following in the footsteps of his master.

Mr. GROVES was the father of four children, three girls and one boy of which two girls are now living and the son. Mrs. BALLINGER of Anadarko, Eugene of North Flat and Mrs. Bertha LOOFBOURROW of Beaver. Mr. and Mrs. LOOFBOURROW are expected to arrive in Beaver with the body this evening and the funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning, Friday, February 18.
