Facts and Events
1857 - Annie's mother died of cholera. 1860 - Her father remarried and Annie was brought by her father and stepmother, apparently mostly living on the goldfields and other mining towns. 1873 - It was at Junction Point in New South Wales, that Annie Jane, by then a young lady of 16 years married a young miner from Cornwall, by the name of Stephen Taylor Williams, aged 22 years. Their marriage certificate records they were married "according to the rites of the Wesleyan Church." and a marginal note reads "for Wesleyan read 'Primitive Methodist'." Annie Jane and Stephen moved around the NSW and Victorian gold fields, buying properties in Sydney, and eventually settling in 1882 at Charters Towers in the Queensland gold fields where they remained until about 1890. At that time, Annie Jane's husband, Stephen was concerned about the children's education, and moved his wife and young family back to the home they still owned in Mosman, Sydney, while he returned to his mining work in Charters Towers. |
