    "GASTONIA — Annie "Eunice" Willie Mae Schier Mercer, 81, formerly of Gastonia, transferred her membership from this Earth to her Heavenly home, on January 11, 2007.
    Born on March 22, 1925, Eunice was a native of Brenham, Texas. She graduated from Blinn College in 1943 where she received her degree in business administration. She worked for J.C. Penny and Matthews Belk for more than 20 years, before retiring in 1987. Eunice was a faithful member
    of the Yorkwood Church of God.
    Eunice became the dedicated and loving wife of Ernest D. Mercer in 1945. They were married for more than 50 years, until his death on January 12, 1996. Eunice was the devoted and loving mother of sonand daughter-in-law Joe and Laurie Mercer and daughter-in-law Tess Mercer Gibbons, wife of
    deceased son, Charles Mercer, and daughters and sons-in-law Faye and David Carpenter, Betty Anne and Howard Sharpe, Jr. and Sarah and Tim Harvell, Sr. She was the loving grandmother and great-grandmother of Scott and Faye, Brent, Jennifer, Duane and Allison, Kacey and Clete, Dawn and Brian, Ashley and Jesse, Amanda and Travis, Tyler, Anna, Dylan, Jacob, Lane, Dawson, and Camden. Eunice is also survived by nieces and a nephew, Shirley, Charlyn and Melvin of Texas.
    In addition to her son and husband, Eunice was preceded in death by four sisters, Gladys Ziegenbein, Alice Sternberg, Lollie and Elaine Schier
