Annie Haley was born on 6th September 1860 in the parish of St Giles in the Fields in Middlesex. Although St Giles in the Fields lay just outside the boundaries of the City of London, the parish was well established as a district of central London, and the 'fields' referred to in its name were long gone by 1860. Annie was the daughter of a waiter named George Haley and his wife Emma. She appears in the 1861 census with her parents at 20 Marshall Street in the parish of St James Piccadilly in Westminster. She was baptised at the church of St James Piccadilly the week after the 1861 census.

By the time of the 1871 census, Annie was living at Eastbourne on the Sussex coast, with her parents and four younger siblings. Judging by her siblings' birthplaces the family had moved from London to Eastbourne some time around 1863 or 1864.

By 1881, Annie was back in London, working as a servant in the home of a vicar in Islington. She was still a servant ten years later, specifically a house maid, but by this time she had left London again and was living at a big house called The Lodge in Warwick. Her future husband, William Thomas Mitchell, was at the time living nearby in Parkes Street.

On 18th November 1894, aged 34, Annie married William at St Paul's Church in Warwick. She appears to have moved back to London between 1891 and her marriage, as her marriage certificate gives her abode as Lancaster Gate in Paddington. Annie and William settled in Warwick, where they had a daughter and two sons between 1896 and 1900.

The 1901 and 1911 censuses find Annie living with William and their three children at 1 Walls Court (or Walls Terrace) on Parkes Street, a four roomed house. William was working as a porter, although in 1911 he was apparently unemployed.

William died in 1931, aged 78. Annie survived him by just over four years. She died in 1936, aged 75.

    d. Annie MITCHELL, March Quarter 1936, Warwick Registration District, Vol. 6d, page 1137, aged 74 [1861/2]

The age at death is one year out, but there does not appear to be any evidence of Annie remarrying after William's death, nor is there another Annie Mitchell of this sort of age living in the Warwick area in the 1911 census.
