Came to America from Poland at Age 11 as the oldest child (there were brothers & sisters). worked as a waitress, truck driver for the highway dept (driving dynamite) since an "immigrant' girl's life was worth less at the time than a married man with family. Met and married Frank Serrer in New York. They bought and managed overlook cabins in Putney VT. She was the cashier, dessert maker, salad maker. Also worked the farm and orchard. 42 two-room cabins and a 1200 acre farm -- 4th largest apple orchard in the country at the time. Worked at the Raybrook Tuberculosis Sanitorium in Raybrook, NY. Met Frank Serrer at that time Was sponsored by the Hoffmans[?] when she arrived at Ellis Island. Father may have been a member of the Polish Supreme Court. Used to have to hide in family basement during raids by Kosaks. Lived off of hollowed bread stuffed with Cottage Cheese. May have been known at Hannah Tebelski Hager at Ellis Island in 1911 (Sponsored by the Hager family...perhaps from Long Island NY??)
