She was known to family as "Granny Anna". Bill pronounced her name as "Ah nah" instead of "Ann nah". They also refered to her as being "Dutch". I'm not sure if they meant "Black Dutch" (mixed blood) or if it was because the family of Francis Sr may have been "Quakers". There is also a family story that Anna was Native American mix and that she lived with the Lumbee tribe for a while after her dad died. There is no documentation of either. At age 19 she was living with her grandfather David Covington. Anna was short with dark hair and eyes. I believe all their sons had her dark eyes.

Anna's headstone says born Dec 12, 1865, but some records in VA say Dec 19, 1860. She died of heart failure a little over a year after Bill died. She was 82 years, 4 months and 5 days accrding to relatives. But if she was born in 1860, she would have been 87+ yrs old.
