[Edwards.GED] OBITUARY: MELVIN MOURNS PASSING OF "GRANDMA" NELSON Mrs. D. A. Nelson was born in Bilingfors, Dalsland, Sweden, April 17, 1862. She came to America and to Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1881. In 1882 she was united in marriage to D. A. Nelson. To this union ten children were born. They made their home first in Coalville, Iowa, until 1887, when they moved to Pomeroy in the same state. In 1896 they moved again, this time to Texas. Mrs Nelson has lived in McCulloch County for the last forty-six years. her husband preceded her in death in march 1924. Also a son and daughter have passed on. Four years ago Mrs. Nelson fell and broke her hip. Since then she has not been able to walk, though for a while she was able to go in and out of a wheelchair. The last six months she has been bedridden entirely. On Saturday morning at 9:05 o'clock she passed quietly from this life at the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 11 days. Those who survive her passing away are: her three sons and five daughters: Charles Nelson of Brady; Mrs. C. Dahlberg of Melvin; Mrs. D. A. Reidland of Dayton; Mrs. Ellen Honeycutt of Abilene: Oscar Nelson of Brady; Emil nelson of Melvin: Mrs. Lee Grubbs of Fort Worth, all of Texas; and Mrs J. B. Edwards of California. Besides there are 27 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She came to know Christ as her Savior in the 1880's and then became a member of the Pomeroy Covenant Mission Church. After coming to Texas, she united with the Evangelical Free Church. Until her illness she hardly ever missed a service of the church. She was a faithful wife, a loving mother, a friendly neighbor and a true Christian. She has now left our midst for the mansions prepared by our Lord and for which she longed more and more as her bodily tabernacle was being dissolved. May peace rest upon her memory. The funeral services were held at the Wilkerson Funeral Home in Brady, and at the Evangelical Free Chruch of Melvin on Sunday afternoon, November 29. Rev. Arthur E. Anderson, pastor of the Evangelical Free Chruch of Georgetown was in charge, assisted by Rev. Mitchell Smith, the pastor of the Methodist Church of Melvin. Mrs. Oscar Byman sang "I Sometimes Get Lonesome for Heaven", and Mrs. A. E. Anderson and Mrs. W. D. Flemming sang, "Under His Wings". The pallbearers were grandsons, namely, Curtis Nelson, Howard Honeycutt, Davis Junior Reidland, George Nelson, Elmer Nelson, and Leonard Nelson. Interment was made at the Melvin Cemetery. At the grave side the song "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" was sung. References
