Anna Dorothea Burgemeister sailed to Port Adelaide from Hamburg Germany with her parents,Johan Gottlieb Burgemeister and Dorothea Elisabeth nee Geister, on the 5th of Septenber 1849.The ship was the Emmy, captained by J.H.O Meyer. Anna's dad Johann Gottlob age 49 he was listed as a Landman. Dorothea Elisabeth nee Geister was 34. Unfortunatly she died at sea.Anna was only 6 years old, her siblings were, Dorothea Elisabeth was 14, J. Wilhelm aged 12, Ernestine Wilhelmine 11, Anna Elisabeth 9 and J Gottlieb aged 5. The ship arrived in Melbourne on January 4 1850, then Port Adelaide SA on January 16 1850. The Emmy was over crowded with 400 Passengers including 145 for Adelaide. 30 people died at sea of dysentery ect. The Emmy was lost in December 1850 in the Cape Verde Islands.

Dorothea Gertig nee Burgemeister became a naturalized Australian on Jan 26th 1910.
