Ann Sharp was baptised on 14th July 1844 at Caddington in Bedfordshire, daughter of a straw plaiter called Elizabeth Sharp, formerly Bone, and her husband David Sharp, an agricultural labourer. Ann appears in the 1851 census living with her parents and siblings in the part of Caddington parish which at that time was in Hertfordshire. In 1861 they were living at Aley Green in the Hertfordshire part of Caddington, and Ann was working as a bonnet sewer.
On 17th November 1862, aged 18, Ann married an agricultural labourer called Edward King at Caddington. They went on to have eleven children together between 1863 and 1886, although four died as babies.
The 1871 census finds Ann, Edward and their children living at Aley Green. In the 1881 census they had moved about five miles south to Redbourn, where they lived on the High Street. They had only recently moved there, as their son born in 1880 gave his place of birth as Aley Green. They did not stay long in Redbourn after the census either, being back in Aley Green by the time their next daughter was born in 1883.
The 1891 census finds Ann, Edward, their children and Ann's widowed mother living at Hill Farm in the Hertfordshire part of Caddington parish.
In 1897 the parish and county boundaries around Caddington were adjusted. A portion of Caddington parish was transferred to become part of a new Markyate parish in Hertfordshire, and the rest of Caddington parish was brought entirely within Bedfordshire rather than straddling the two counties. The new county boundary passed through Aley Green, and the 1901 census finds Ann, Edward, three children and a grandson living in the part of Aley Green which was within the newly created parish of Markyate.
Edward died in 1906, aged 65.
The 1911 census finds Ann living alone in a four roomed house in the part of Aley Green in Caddington parish.
Ann died at Aley Green in Caddington on 28th March 1922, aged 77.
